LaVerne Mullins, Works at Making Sense; Clintwood, Virginia:
"For close to a year now, I've toyed with the idea of relocating to another area. These are a few of the reasons why I am in this mindset....... The politics of the 'good ol' buddy system' in my town & county, decay of integrity on the part of a few educators in my school system & lastly, religious dogma. I know that no matter where one lives, it's never a perfect & ideal world.
I keep reminding myself of the saying, 'Be the change you want to see in your world.' That is a mighty tall order. You can try to offer new ideas, suggest changes for the better & good of all, be a whistle blower till you drop, but still there will be some folks that demand to have it the 'way it has always been'.
I just wish I was younger with all the energy, vitality & living brain cells that go with being young. I would enroll in college & become an advocate for those who don't know their rights as a human bean. Yeah, I meant to spell that word that way.... Credit Dub aka W.v. Hill for that one. Hehe.
Those who are financially challenged, downtrodden, disheartened as well as the aging population who get duped on by scams, insurance companies & utility companies, etc. especially pull on my heart strings.
I have all of 2 brain cells left with failing health in my future to look forward to, but by golly I am going to go out fighting against injustice till I croak. My passion for this has to matter someway, somehow..... I dream in another life I am a lawyer for the people. A pro bono one.”
